Huckabee states he would like to amend Constitution
Mike recently made some statements about politics and religion that put a finer point on his intentions as President.

“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do—to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”
I feel like the role of religion in politics is one of the issues I end up belaboring a lot on this site, and I don’t want people to think I’ve got a vendetta or some chip on my shoulder. But when a front-runner makes a statement like this I really think it would be remiss to not call it to attention. Agree or disagree, it is a bold statement and shouldn’t slip under the radar.

This story is so crazy and disturbing, part of my head exploded. The good news: I predict that this will be Huckabee’s “yeeeeaaaarrrggh” moment that promptly murders his campaign. Sure, people may get to the polls based on religious virtue and “family values,” but few members of the citizenry are fucking nuts enough to believe that a President ought to re-write the Constitution to make it more like a religious text. And for those who do: consider relocating to 1990s Afghanistan.
That man is batshit crazy.
I can’t help but laugh at arguments like these. While I understand (and agree with) his point that people of sincere faith shouldn’t completely adapt their core beliefs just to fit into a more culturally accepted perspective, what he fails to consider is the fact that his core beliefs are merely an adaptation of biblical principles shaped by his own perspective. It’s not just the progressives who manipulate scripture to fit into a more contemporary worldview, it’s anyone who reads it. Conservatives equally distort biblical principles for their own agenda, not just the Christians who want to give homosexuals and women their rights.
not to mention the writers of the constitution were heavily concerned with structuring it in a way that would promote core biblical values
